And the journey begins!

Well this weekend I did something I never thought I'd do...I signed up for my first half marathon! Why did I never imagine myself running? Because a year and a half ago I looked like this...
Athletic is not exactly the word that comes to mind! This picture was taken just a week before I underwent gastric bypass surgery. Here's a more recent picture of me and my kids...
This was taken last week at local "Obstacles for Popsicles" kids fun run and 5k. Notice the numbers on my kids shirts. They ran the 1/2 mile race! The best part of this whole journey is that my kids are now healthier and more active too. Oh, in case you were wondering I don't just randomly pose for pictures with a beer stein in my hand. That was my prize for taking second in the woman's 30-39 category in the 5k with a time of 24:42. My first time breaking the 25 minute mark!
I'm currently searching the internet trying to find the right training program for the half marathon. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Lord knows I'm gonna need all the help I can get!

Introduction

Hi! My name is Shana and I have been married to my wonderful husband Shaun for almost 10 years. Together we have four kids, Kaden age 7, Micah age 4 and twins Taryn and Asher age 3. In November of 2009 I made the drastic decision to have gastric bypass surgery after fighting a long battle with obesity and eventually morbid obesity. I spent the next year of my life loosing over 100 pounds and I'm now working to keep it off by eating healthy and exercising...primarily running. Just this week I bit the bullet and signed up for my first half marathon!
I'm not a writer by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, had I taken a creative writing class in high school or college I'm certain I would have failed! As for speeling errors and typos...lets just say if you consider yourself the grammar police you might want to stop reading now but, if you can get past my writing and you'd like to watch me flounder my way through this journey stay tuned!
